Pure, Safe Water On Tap - Penny A Gallon - No Filter Changes for 10 years!
Filtration Comparison Chart
There are more than 500 companies that sell drinking water systems for the treatment of various contaminants. Although hundreds of companies make devices that can remove chlorine from water, only 37 of those companies offer drinking water treatment systems that are certified by NSF to reduce Lead and 21 have listings for the reduction of Trihalomethanes (a disinfectant by-product known to cause cancer in humans) under NSF's Standard No. 53, Health Effects(June, 1996 Listings). Only 21 companies have devices
certified by NSF to reduce both Lead and Trihalomethanes.
Our Drinking Water Systems' WHOLLY WATER ® was tested both NSF protocal 53 & 42. On 53, WHOLLY WATER ® was tested on 17 prime list contaminants covered by the EPA Safe Drinking Water Act and to higher levels than any other tested! No Other Company Can Make This Claim!!!
There are four things to consider when looking for the best
drinking water filter. Certification
Water is
forced through 5 separate filter beds, each filled with a different filter media where a combination of mechanical filtration; catalyst reaction; oxidation reduction; electrokinetic adsorption;
and physical/chemical adsorption take place to reduce the widest
range of contaminants.

Cysts
(Cryptosporidium and Giardia)
VOCs (Pesticides, Herbicides,
and Chemicals)
Trihalomethanes(cancer-causing disinfection by-products)
Heavy Metals (Lead, Mercury)
Asbestos
WHOLLY WATER ® The Ultimate Drinking Water Appliance does not remove healthful, naturally occurring minerals, requires no electricity, and does not add salt or silver to the water. WHOLLY WATER ® The Ultimate Drinking Water Appliance provides refreshing, delicious, and safer drinking water on tap for 10 years and more with no filter changes or on-going costs. No other drinking water system in the world can make this statement!!!
Our Drinking Water Systems
have been certified by an independent 3rd party lab to 220,490 gallons.
Six-year manufacturer's warranty - the first year
is unlimited; the pressure vessel is lifetime.
In this type
of filter, water flows through a bed of charcoal granules, which
traps the particulate matter; adsorbs some chlorine; and removes
tastes and odors. It is possible for the water to channel around
the carbon granules, thus avoiding filtration. If the granules
are not impregnated with silver nitrate (which is considered to
be a poison), the granular beds may become breeding grounds for
bacterial growth.
This type of filter is primarily used for aesthetic
treatment, since it can reduce chlorine and particulate matter
as well as improve the taste and odor of the water. Granular Activated
Carbon filters, because the water can channel around the carbon
granules, are not effective in reducing contaminants of health
concern (cysts, VOCs, trihalomethanes, endocrine disrupters, mercury,
lead, or asbestos).
Ceramic filters use a process whereby water is forced through the pores of the ceramic filtration media, providing mechanical filtration only. This type of filter can reduce asbestos, cysts (if the pores are one micron or smaller), and particulate matter. Ceramic filters cannot reduce VOCs, endocrine disrupters, trihalomethanes, mercury, or lead.
Water is heated to boiling and turns to vapor, leaving behind contaminants. The water vapor enters a condenser where it is cooled and returned to a liquid state, ready for use. It works slowly, taking a few hours to produce the first quart of water and uses a lot of electricity (costing consumers approximately $240 per year). The distillation process does kill cysts (giardia, cryptosporidium). VOCs, endocrine disrupters, and trihalomethanes, because of their volatile nature ("volatile" meaning that these chemicals can be evaporated and then recondensed into a liquid state), are not effectively reduced by distillation. Distillation reduces heavy metals, but through the same process also removes beneficial minerals.
Reverse Osmosis is a process that forces, by the application of pressure, the water to pass through a semi-permeable membrane that rejects contaminants suspended in the water. The product water passes through to a holding tank. The process is slow and wastes three to four gallons for every one gallon of drinking water produced. May require professional installation. These systems reduce heavy metals and minerals (including healthful, naturally occurring minerals). Reverse Osmosis does not effectively reduce VOCs, endocrine disrupters, pesticides, or trihalomethanes. The reverse osmosis membrane can also be sensitive to certain water characteristics. Reverse Osmosis delivers a limited supply of water (due to the holding tank).
According to Hamilton and
Whitney's Nutrition, "Soft water [water with the minerals
removed] appears to contribute to a higher incidence of hypertension and
heart disease in areas where it is used.
Hard water [that retains
its beneficial, naturally occurring minerals] may oppose these
conditions."
This type of filter is specially engineered for specific contaminant reduction. For example, KDF filters reduce chlorine well; ATS filters reduce lead well. These filters show a high performance against the specific contaminants, but not against other contaminants.
Ion Exchange uses the chemical ion exchange process to exchange anions or cations on a "resin" bed for cations or anions of the contaminant that needs to be reduced (usually heavy metals or minerals like lead or mercury). Water softeners are neither filters nor purifiers and are used only to change the water hardness. Softeners put sodium into the water in exchange for magnesium or calcium ions. It is recommended that water softeners be bypassed when installing a water filter. Most softeners must be professionally installed.
Water passes through a chamber where it is exposed to UltraViolet radiation. Very turbid water can reduce the effectiveness of this type of treatment. This treatment is effective against many bacterial contaminants, but is not effective in reducing cryptosporidium. Other contaminants of health concern (VOCs, endocrine disrupters, asbestos, trihalomethanes, mercury, and lead) are not affected by ultraviolet treatment.
These "pour through" types of filters are mainly taste and odor filters. Some are effective against lead and/or chlorine. The internal filter is usually a mixed media or granular carbon. These filters do not reduce other contaminants of health concern. There is a limited supply of water since the carafe can only hold approximately 2-3 quarts, which makes this type of filter somewhat inconvenient. Also, water that is filtered by this method usually must be kept refrigerated.
Ozonation "super-oxygenates" the water which can kill bacteria with adequate contact time. This process is often used at public water utilities and not in the home at point-of-use or point-of-entry. This is a process that only addresses bacterial contamination. This type of treatment can create by-products in the treated water. Some of the created by-products also allow for increased bacterial growth in the pipes down the line which contributes to re-infection of the water.
It has been
said that within the next ten years, 43% of the American homes
will have a drinking water treatment device in their homes. In
an effort to improve the taste and quality of their drinking water,
many consumers turn to bottled water as a first alternative to
drinking unfiltered tap water. However, those bottled water users
are quickly discovering that bottled water is not the healthy
drinking water they want, and it is very expensive. In addition,
infrequent testing for contaminants and sporadic inspection of
processing plans must be solved before bottled water can be assumed
to be sanitary as even regular U.S. tap water.
Currently, bottled
water companies are not required to test for Cryptosporidium, even though bottled
water sources often are just as prone to Crypto contamination
as any other drinking water source. According to sources, 1/4
of bottled waters sold comes from filtered municipal water that
is then treated. In other words, it is reprocessed tap water.
Bottled water consumers are excellent candidates for our Drinking Water System because they have already recognized the need for better quality and healthier water. When comparing bottled water to Our System, it is easy to see why many former bottled water users are now our customers. Doesn't your family deserve the best? Now you can get it for much less!
