Troubleshooting Control Valve

Whole House WHOLLY WATER ® 2-Tank Installation

1. Unpack.

2. Remove the black cap from the smaller of the two tanks - the one without the "in" & "out" holes.

3. Remove the control valve from the box and make sure the large black O-ring is seated in its place on the base just above the threads. Hold it over the top of the tank and align it with the opening.
Center the riser tube to the valve and carefully slide it on. You may need to push down hard to get the tube to slide all the way in. There is an O-ring in the valve. Once it is in, carefully start turning the valve counter-clockwise to thread it down tight. Make sure there is no grit in threads to ensure proper seal. Do not cross thread or over tighten.

4. Arrange the two big tanks the best way that they will fit for the location. The tank with the control connects to the water inlet on the left side facing the front of the control. The valve outlet is on the right. The second tank connects to it.

Important! Please note the holes are marked "in" & "out". You must hook the "out" to the "out" of the first tank. This leaves the "in" side free to hook up to the one-micron post filter-housing inlet. The outlet then goes to the house.

5. Plumb it in by cutting the cold water line where you want to connect - the raw water side.
Connect your incoming water line to the shut-off on the inlet side of the control valve.
Connect to the other shut-off valve on the outlet after the TEE and spigot of the pipe leading to the house (the filtered water side).

6. Next, a backwash drain line (1/2-inch plastic hose) must be attached to the drain fitting on the back of the control and run into a drain. (More directions are in the control valve manual.)

7. Once it is plumbed in, you need to backwash the first filter and flush the second out. There is a lot of fine media dust in the filters that will flush out when the water is first turned back on.

8. On the first tank, set the control to the backwash position (check the manual). "Unplug the control".
Important! Open valve partially to let tank fill very slowly in backwash position. This will allow air to escape out of the drain as the tank fills. Doing otherwise can cause control valve to plug up with media and cause enormous problems. Remove the one-micron filter while doing this so it will not plug up. Turn the filtered side water line off (BallValve). This will keep the media dust out of house plumbing, hot water heater, etc.

9. Now the second filter can be flushed. A spigot is provided for a hose; run hose to a drain until water is clear< about 10 to 15 minutes. With the Ball valve shut no filter dust or media can get into your pipes. Replace the Hytrex II filter in the housing before opening the ball valve. Now nothing larger than one micron can get past this system. It is also wise to shut off other lines to washer, hot water heater, etc. to keep the dust out of those lines. Caution! You may need to turn off power to hot water heater until you are done. Hot water can expand. Low water can burn out electric heating elements if it is on and the water level is down.

10. Note: The water will have a lot of air bubbles coming out for a few days. This is harmless.
If you fill a clear glass, you will see bubbles rise to the top and leave the water crystal clear and odor free. If not, you may run water for another 10 minutes or so and repeat air bubble test in glass.

11. Set backwash pins as needed. All pins in = every night. Every other pin = alternate nights, etc.
If you don't know how often to set it, email me telling your water conditions before installing the system, and I will be happy to suggest the right setting.

12. Set clock time to current time. Do not worry about backwashing at night. It is automatically off set when set to current time.

13. Replace 1-micron filter cartridge (post filter) every 6 to 12 months or as needed when water flow slows.
To change: Shut off ball valve before the filter and after the filter. Open the post bib enough to relieve pressure. It’s going to drip and squirt some water. When you unscrew the filter housing, it’s going to be full of water, so have a bucket underneath. Now you can rinse out the cartridge housing and put new filter in the housing.

You can later hook up a garden hose to the spigot so you may use purified water for other purposes.
